Accessibility

Accessible to patrons with limited mobility. An elevator is available to take patrons to the library entrance on the second floor. A power-equipped, accessible entrance is located on the south side of the building. Inquire at the circulation desk to access the library mezzanine via the elevator.

About us

We house resources to support the departments in the Stanford Doerr School of Sustainability with topics covering Earth and planetary sciences, geophysics, energy, climate, and geology. The library also houses the main map library and the Stanford Geospatial Center, which provides GIS support services for the entire campus. The library is a depository for the United States Geological Survey.

  • Stanford Geological Survey Collection

    The Stanford Geological Survey (SGS) existed for one hundred years from 1895 to 1995. During this time students and faculty went into the field to survey and map parts of California, Nevada, and Utah. The SGS collection includes maps, field notebooks, and field reports.

    Mining in the West has played a critical role in the development, modernization, and industrialization of the United States. Maps, bird's eye views, cross sections, and photographs were created in abundance to record this period of rapid change and growth in towns all over the West.

  • Office of Strategic Services Maps

    The United States Office of Strategic Services (OSS) was formed in June 1942 in response to the entry of the United States into World War II. This effort brought together a number of experts, including a large number of cartographers who created maps on demand that either stood alone or were part of reports.
